Westbury Personal Chef, Nutritionist Will Cook Meals In Your Kitchen For Weight Loss, Health

Sometimes it's hard to lose weight and cook those imaginative healthy meals without taste testing and sabotaging your diet.

Westbury clinical nutritionist and personal chef Andrea Massop Ramos offers a personal chef service in her practice called Healthy Friendz Nutrition.

The service is also great for anyone needing to control a serious health problem like diabetes or hypertension.

"I go into my client's kitchen and prepare the foods they like using natural, fresh and wholesome ingredients that take their ethnicity into account," said Ramos.

In addition to personal chef, her services include personal or family nutrition education, and workshops and presentations at schools or another group setting.

Healthy Friendz mission is to improve the quality of lives of children and their families.

Ramos does this by offering a holistic approach to nutrition and health.

She works one-on-one with clients or families, and helps them develop not just better eating habits, and to incorporate exercise in their daily lives, but also to improve sleep, hydration, and other healthful habits to "combat childhood obesity" or address an "adult-like health concern."

Clients often come in for health problems, Ramos continued.

"Someone will have diabetes and think about controlling their sugar. And someone with hypertension will say they want to control their salt. But in my world, everything is included. You definitely have to drink enough water. 

"Seventy percent of your body is water. Your organs need water to thrive and survive. You flush out toxins with water. Sleep is very important. You need seven hours, period. There is no making it up. The sleeping state is when your body is rebuilding."

Ramos re-directed her career several years ago after a successful run in the transportation industry.

Earlier she worked in the airlines, then 12 years at Metro-North Railroad in varying roles, including as an operations manager overseeing over 900-plus locomotive engineers and conductors.

She then moved on to work as an investigator for accidents and incidents in the Office of System Safety.

While at the railroad, Ramos who has a B.S. in biology and a minor in psychology from Syracuse University, earned her master's in clinical nutrition from New York Institute of Technology.

With her added qualifications, at Metro-North, Ramos founded Healthy4U, a Corporate Health and Well Being Group at Metro-North Railroad, which continues to exist today.

She was recognized by New York State in 2018 as an Oustanding Woman of the Year for her community service work in the area of children's nutrition.

In addition to working one-on-one with kids and their families, Ramos would like to go into schools to deliver a special program she had developed to help educate students on the importance of exercise and good nutrition.
